A Roblin survey shows merchants and shoppers compete for Main Street spaces, shoppers unwilling to walk far, long stop durations clogging prime spots, and stores needing off street parking using on street spaces. Several solutions are proposed to address the problem.
The report urges installation and enforcement of parking meters and time limits, backed by merchants to shift all day parking off street. It recommends merchants form a cooperative for centralized off street spaces and asks large users to provide parking. A possible switch from angle to parallel parking on Main Street would cut spaces from 205 to about 103, but is seen as worth trying to ease traffic hazards. The town should seek vacant CBD lots with merchant aid to meet future demand.
