Thirteen year old Carl Jones of Portage la Prairie is Manitoba's Easter Seal Timmy for 1982. He lost both legs in a train accident and remains an active Grade Six student at LaVerendrye Elementary School. Carl represents disabled children supported by The Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Manitoba during the month long Easter Seal Campaign March 14 to April 11.
Roblin regional figure skating competition held in Russell on February 7 featured skaters from Roblin Russell Dauphin Ste Rose and Swan River. Melanie Cockerill won bronze in primary ladies event Shane Cockerill took gold in elementary men and silver in juvenile mixed dance with other Roblin skaters earning bronze or gold medals in various categories.
