Goose Lake High School held a large graduation with over 625 in the auditorium. Principal W C Morris praised the class as a high quality student body and stressed education's role in future success. Special awards in 12 categories recognized near 90 percent standings.

As the May 31 deadline nears for tenure notices, Inter mountain Board of Trustees accepted resignations from two principals Howard Smith of Roblin Elementary and Ivan Yackel of Grandview K to 12. Gary Davis will lead Grandview. Bert Gaumond and replacements for Roblin and Grandview teachers are named with retirements and leaves noted.

Four Alcohol Related Court Cases Settled
Scott Kosinski of Roblin fined 400 dollars plus 22 dollars costs after being charged under the Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code for driving irrationally under the influence and while suspended. Calvin Joseph Shingoosh of the Valley River Indian Reserve fined 300 dollars plus 50 dollars costs for DUI without a valid licence after a Reserve motor accident. Floyd McKay, of Roblin now in Winnipeg, fined 300 dollars plus 2 dollars costs on a Highway Traffic Act count and 25 dollars plus 5 dollars costs on a Criminal Code count for a March 29 incident when stopped on Highway No. 5 east of Roblin with no rear lights and one headlight while intoxicated and without a valid licence.

Two Roblin Entrants Compete in Manitoba Marathon Roster
The Manitoba Marathon, 7th annual, includes the 1985 Canadian Championships and Canadian Masters Championships. Entrants run in the International Marathon, Shell Half Marathon, Pepsi Challenge Relay, and the new Winnipeg Sun Super Run. Began near 6 am from the University of Manitoba with pledges supporting group home projects for the mentally handicapped, raising over $1.6 million in seven years.

Development survey targets Roblin area growth potential
The Inter- Park West Development Committee led a regional survey across Roblin and neighboring rural municipalities to assess economic growth potential in tourism agriculture forestry and manufacturing. Interviews with business and resident groups will inform policy input to federal and provincial officials under the LEAD program with a $32 000 IPWD C grant.

Safer Shell River bridge project underway near Roblin
Residents of Roblin area win a bridge upgrade after a year long push. The old Shell River bridge on municipal road 314 east of Roblin is being replaced with a $73 000 project funded by municipal shares and grants. Construction began June 18 and aims for completion by July 1 if weather holds. The joint effort by the R M of Shell River and Hillsburg will use two steel pipes and cost about $44 000 for the metal from Armco Westeel Inc. Future Manitoba Jobs Fund grants were cut to 20 000, with the remaining 53 000 from local funding.
