Canada Trade and Transport Notes From May 1926 Dispatch

Trade totals for April 1926 show imports at 127,968,121 with 67,801,263 for imperial and 60,166,868 for exports. Immigration for the first quarter rose 103 percent from 1925, totaling 21,049 arrivals. Canada’s 1925 output of manufactured non metallic mineral products reached 115,587,316 dollars, up nearly 45 million from 1994 and the highest since 1920. Dominion Express reports a cream export surge in Quebec with May shipments 3 to 4 carloads weekly and June forecasts at 153,600 pounds daily. A record hot-house tomato load from British Columbia’s Victoria Bet-House Association was moved by Dominion Express. E. W. Beatty and W. R. MacInnes travel to England to advance CPR’s Atlantic liners. The Boston and Maine line near the international border was leased to CPR, affecting several New England states. CPR rock ballast projects will strengthen and smooth mainline tracks from Brock Fort to Montreal West and beyond. The Trans-Canada Limited from Montreal to Vancouver began the summer season May 16 with full bookings, continuing as the continent’s longest all-sleeper service.

Charles E S McPherson assistant passenger traffic manager Western Lines CPR marked the sixth anniversary of his entry into railway circles. He began in the telegraph office of Grand Trunk Railway in Toronto as a junior clerk. He completed 40 years with CPR serving in Toronto Niagara Falls New York Montreal Boston Saint John and Winnipeg.
