Public Works plan would reroute No 4 Highway near Poplar Point
A letter to the editor from J. P. Bend argues the Province of Manitoba plans to shift No 4 Highway east from Westburne toward No 1 near MacDonald and Poplar Point. The writer contends the route adds miles, railway crossings, and city traffic, risking lives and bypassing Portage la Prairie.

Notable World Leaders Visit Normandy Beachhead
Five years ago on June 12 Winston Churchill visited the Normandy beachhead for three hours as reports came of Carentan’s capture. Four days later King George VI set foot in France, conferred the CBE on Maj Gen R F L Keller, and battles around Caen and Tilly-sur-Seulles raged bitterly. By June 18 Cherbourg was poised to fall and Pescarra was captured in the first Canadian operations published in theatre. Point Pele Park in Ontario marks Canada’s southern mainland extension near California’s latitude. Dignity lies in deserving honors, not merely possessing them.
