Rink Board Clarifies Permits and Donations

At a public meeting the rink board denied spending 475 for building permits on the new arena and said only an electrical permit about 70 was bought by Howard Wilson and not charged to the board. They urge transparency, note open books at Fred Newton's office, seek paint for the arena, and acknowledge donors including the Ladies Afternoon Curling Club and Morgan Kelso. Last week's draw winner was Bob Cowan of Roblin.

Honored Guests Attend Eastern Star Meeting in Roblin

At the Roblin Chapter No. 42 Eastern Star gathering held June 1, Worthy Grand Matron Mrs Isabel Curwain and Worthy Grand Patron Mr Thomas Taylor led a ceremony with other dignitaries including Grand Associate Matron Mrs Mona Crass and Grand Conductress Mrs Jeannette Moss. The event featured festive decor and a fund-raising aim for an Eastern Star care home in Winnipeg along with presentations to guests and visiting chapters from Russell and Victory chapters.

Roblin District Graduation At Assiniboine CC

Graduation exercises at Assiniboine Community College Friday June 25 1971 at 2 00 pm in the college auditorium. 423 candidates receive diplomas or certificates. Guest speaker is R E Forbes principal Brandon Agricultural Extension Centre. Roblin area honorees include Elinor Simpson Garland Booker Grace Nernberg Gordon Curtis Penny Davidson.

Gynaecologist Joins Roblin Clinic In 1971

Dr. D K Chaudhari joined the Roblin Clinic on June 1 1971 after earning a degree in Maternity and Women’s diseases. He held specialist diplomas in ear nose throat and eye diseases and served as a consultant in his field while maintaining broad general practice knowledge. He arrived from North Battleford with his wife Annew and sons Hamish and Jonathon.

Manitoba Education Adds Preschool Classes and Music Plan

The Manitoba education department launches preschool kindergarten classes in distant areas, starting July 5 in Grand Prairie near Roblin and ending August 6. Expenses are funded by the department. The division hires Alfred Shipalesky as assistant caretaker for Roblin High School and plans a bus program for summer recreation. Officials consider a music coordinator or in-house program led by teachers proficient in music. A demolished elementary school site is noted and Dauphin Comprehensive School will open this fall with about thirty local students.

Roblin Manitoba advisory planning commission met June 14 to review long range plans for the Shellmouth Reservoir area on crown land. Maps showed cottaging camping and resort zones while the panel urged minimal vegetation clearing for a power line and sought government budgeting input. Participants included Dave Whitty and Glen Shaw with several commission and Lands Branch members.

Third Generation Mitchells Graduate in Pharmacy at Manitoba

The Mitchell family marks a three generation line of Manitoba pharmacists. Irwin L. Mitchell graduated in 1907 and opened a Roblin store. His son Graham earned a 1937 degree and served in the RCAF as a pharmacist until 1945. Jim Mitchell graduates in 1971 at the University of Manitoba and works at Hills Hastings Drug Store in Portage la Prairie.

Cromarty Pony Club Achievment Day Winners Named

The Cromarty Pony Club held its 4th Annual Achievment Day on June 12 at Baumung Farm. Twelve ponies competed, eight senior and four junior. Debbie Stephanow won Champion, Eddie Stephanow Reserve. prizes included saddle boots, saddle blanket and rope halter, and engraved plaques.

Roblin honors Leslie Spear with retirement medal

On June 10 Roblin Collegiate celebrated longtime teacher Leslie Spear retiring after 39 years of service including wartime duty. Robert Campbell, RCit. president, presented a gold medal with 1932 1971 L I Spear inscription as students gave a standing ovation. Spear thanked the student body for the years of teaching and wished them well.

Hay and Forage Field Day and Related 4-H Events

A hay and forage field day is set for June 24 at 10 30 am at the Dunn Farm near Russell with equipment demos from Allis Chalmers Allied Farm Equipment Clement Farm Equipment and others plus silo company displays. The Roblin Russell 4 H Rally occurs July 16 in Russell with a 10 am registration and 11 45 am parade followed by a barbecue and dance. Dauphin Rally directed by Peter Kiez is planned for July 12 in Dauphin. A 44H Livestock Show and Sale in Foxwarren on June 12 saw Five clubs compete as Gordon Ferguson judged 74 head selling for 31 35 per pound top steers at 40c and reserve at 38c.
