Grasshopper Hatch Under Way Across Red River Valley

The hatch in Manitoba’s Red River Valley is progressing with about 40 percent of eggs hatched in the south and 25 to 30 percent in central to north areas. Infestation will be patchy with some areas free of grasshoppers while others face light to moderate damage. Roadside grass aids feeding and slows remaining hatch, aiding crop resilience. Some damage reported near Roseisle along field margins. Western Manitoba shows advanced grasshopper maturity.
