Wood Tick IA Common Pest
The American dog tick or wood tick is a common pest to livestock and pets in Manitoba. It is a flat brown tick about three sixteenths of an inch long when full grown and hides in grass or shrubs waiting to latch onto warm-blooded animals. It feeds on blood for days before dropping to digest the meal, with immature ticks resembling small adults. The eight legged tick is related to spiders and not a true insect.
