Manitoba reports 1800 miles of market roads well gravelled and 1500 miles of well graded earth roads with 14 million dollars spent since 1914. By 1929 four million plus planned for trunk roads this year. Through highways cover 1700 miles with continuous grading since 1925 and 814 miles ready for gravelling. Trans Canada highway to Ontario boundary expected by fall 1931 with full Winnipeg to Kenora service and rest stops along the 175 mile route.
The Canadian Government plans to transport 3000 rein deer from Alaska to the McKenzie delta aiming to expand the available meat supply. Herders, led by A. E. Persild, will oversee the herd as it reaches unoccupied territory regarded as able to support hundreds of thousands of deer.
Mr and Mrs J J Funk thank friends and neighbors for kindnesses shown during their recent bereavement in a brief appreciation note.
Roblin region notes report business visits in Winnipeg and Regina. Fraternal lodge visit planned at Dauphin, cemetery day set for June 17 and 29 with an invitation to all. Salvation Army lecture in Roblin to feature 150 slides, admission collected. Editorial urges enforcement of stray livestock by laws to protect gardens and town looks during summer visitors.
Charlie McMaster of Rolla North Dakota visited Deepdale on Sunday. A Friday evening dance at the hall drew 50 to 60 couples amid light rain. Seeding in the district is nearly complete with favorable weather expected. Notables on business included A T Kines and Jones of insurance firms and W West of the Wheat Pool. Jack BeerMan remains confined to McKellan Hospital Fort William but shows slight improvement.
Public notice states that any entertainment or amusement offered for profit is advertising and will be charged accordingly. The guidance prohibits requests for free advertising and emphasizes paid promotion for profitable events.
Local wares report a busy week with visits by Rev McConnell and residents traveling to Kansack and Kamsack. The Board of Trade held a meeting, Brigadier Smith of the Salvation Army will speak in Togo on June 9, and Anglican Parish plans Whit Sunday coach service. A poultry notice and a Home Makers Club formation are announced, with a town hall meeting on June 1 for ladies.
A Sunday rain boosted hopes for a good crop as seeding progressed across the district. Social events included a Leonard farm house warming on Friday with a lively crowd. A Polish hall event Saturday was lightly attended but enjoyed. A large poolroom dance last Thursday drew a record crowd. Kamizack boya provided the music. Mr and Mrs G A McDougall and their daughter Gladys visited Moseminak, staying with Mr and Mrs C Hodkinson.
Cromarty service will be held in the Cromarty school house on Saturday. Miss Hazel Culling is on the sick list this week and we wish her a speedy recovery. The new highway down the Assiniboine is almost completed. Miss Mary Simpson retired from Winnipeg Friday morning after attending Normal. Rumor suggests Aliek Gilrot took a ride down to Cromarty corner last Saturday night rather than walk. Several of our young folk attended the dance at Derpdale Friday night and report a jovial time.

E C Stakman of the Minnesota Experimental Station and fellow plant pathologists in Canada and Winnipeg outline how rust resistance evolves. They describe crossing existing varieties to create strains that resist stem rust, aiming to curb the disease as wheat development continues.
UmiEl School wins multiple prizes at the Dauphin musical festival on Friday May 23. A chorus for intermediate schools and a senior girls soloist both placed first in their classes. Chorus trained by Miss Crane and soloist Heada Hunt, guided by Mrs. McNeill and Miss McKinnon, earned a shield and a gold bracelet respectively. The group planned to enter more classes next year and enjoyed the outing.
An old ad claims Adlerika loosens stagnation by simulating glycerine and bark mixtures to purge gas and stool in two hours. It contrasts merlicines restricted to the lower bowel with Adlerika’s supposed dual action, promising rapid digestive relief and a cleansing effect for stomach and bowels.

Free Methodist Church announces Sunday School time and evening service at 7 pm with Behold Thy Mother. Morning service at Biel begins 11 am and an 8 pm service follows.
