Manitoba Health says this season’s first Culex tarsalis mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus. No human cases yet in 2012. Infected samples collected the week of July 1 from Portage la Prairie and Sandy Bay First Nation. Risk remains low. no adult mosquito control order planned.
Visiting with Don and Jean Lorch included their daughter Berna Lorch of Winnipeg. Kiste Chase shared time with sons Wes Chase of Port Alberni BC and his son Guy Chase, Byron and Joyce Chase of Okotoks AB and grandson Carsyn. Other visitors included Sharon Buckmaster Manor SK Beryl Cowan Swan River and Gloria and Earl Belcourt Cobble Hill BC. Mennonite ladies offered a lunch and tenants’ program. Herve and Louise Mailhot’s daughters Madeline Calgary and Noella Mailhot Montreal also visited.
Gladys Craig shares family visits from Roy Craig of Stonewall and Valerie and Shane with their sons from Terrace BC, plus Colin and Roslyn with sons from Fort McMurray. Art McIntyre visits Winnipeg to see daughters Gail and Ivy and returns Sunday. Yvonne Sather hosts grandson Bran and Jill Marin and girls from Regina. Charlie and Elvina Wilkinson mark 60 years with family gathering. Bev Stephanow of Green Acres Greenhouse donates plants for Maple Manor. Rita Claeys coordinates scarf making with Maple Manor ladies, on sale 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday. Belated birthday wishes to Don Lorch for June. July birthdays listed for Marie Currey, Cathy Cockerill, and Ruby Alexander.

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary of LA on summer hiatus met Tuesday June 12 with President Lorene Ward presiding. Nine members attended. minutes and finances were read and adopted. correspondence included a Provincial Council note and a Roblin Ag Society thank you. Velma Isuick received a Life Membership. Ruth Zimmer won the Ways & Means draw. Next meeting September 11.
