Ideal weather and large crowd mark Roblin Elks Day and Diamond Jubilee celebrations July 11 with a full program. Parade, patriotic songs, prizes for carts and autos, baseball and softball tournaments, horse races, marching bands, open dancing, fireworks and a theatre show drew broad community participation and praise.
A cyclonic windstorm tore through the district on Thursday evening injuring Dan Roberts a pioneer living six miles northeast of Roblin. He was taken to Dauphin hospital after his house was lifted and smashed and his jaw fractured along with broken ribs. Other farm buildings threshing machinery and equipment suffered complete destruction with debris scattered for miles.
Miss Mabel Merrell of Maymeont Sask visits Roblin relatives. Mr and Mrs R Ward of Percival Sask visit Deepdale. Emma Hayward, former Carberry teacher, enjoys holidays. Mrs Hi Edginton returns from Winnipeg. Shell River Agricultural Society shows prize lists soon. Mr and Mrs Patterson buy N F quarter of 18-26-28 and move in. Mary Ethel Ferguson and William G Ford wed in Minneapolis and plan Roblin residence after trip.
Mr and Mrs Joseph McDonald visit Defoe Sask. Next Tuesday afternoon 19th inst will be clean up day at the cemetery with expected turnout from town and countryside. Bolton of Defoe were guests of the McDonalds last week returning home by motor. A large group motored to Roblin for the Sports event. girls basketball team attended. Rev. Mr. McConnell and family from Kennedy arrived and will lead United Church. Induction service held Friday evening the 8th inst.
Village council minutes note adoption of June 7th record and a $200 grant to the Shell River Agricultural Society. By law No 136 passes third reading. Council urges strong support for a Manitoba National Park site and thorough survey by authorities.
Mr A Jaasund on sick list. M Olson spent two months at Minneapolis. A Olson and Bunes left for the West to work this summer. Wheat crop outlook shows a good drop. Ed Olson’s son treated for dislocated shoulder at Dauphin hospital. John McLeod survived a cyclone with his house and barn carried away. Roy Chase trip by motor to Batevan and back via Rerandon. roads rough from heavy rains.
Mr A Carlson bought a new Ford roadster last week and E Luchuk and family visited at Mr Dan Boychuk’s home last Sunday. A severe hail storm damaged crops and gardens. Daniel Motyka nears completion of his saw mill run. Anyone needing new logs should see him at once. M Zibresky has returned home after appendicitis surgery at Dauphin hospital. Fred Dibresky loves driving his new Ford touring car into ditches. Grade IV list of names and passes.
A barn dance will be held at Mr. Brandons barn on July 22 with the Deepdale orchestra in attendance. The Cromarty Women's Institute will serve lunch. The Cromarty W E read a paper on the Pioneers of Cromarty district and the Johnston family arrival at Boggy Creek. A dainty lunch was served.
Rev. Robert Harvey conducts services as usual next Sunday. Notes from Cromarty and Roblin list sermon details and schedule with brief local church notices.
The Bield United Church schedules Sunday services at Shevlin 11 a.m. Beeld 3 p.m. and Merridale School 7 p.m. The theme is The Challenge of the Crocs Little Things led by Student Pastor George Duncan Wilkie.
