Obituary for Mrs. Sara Steffler of Roblin district

Funeral services were held at Hoblin Roman Catholic Church for Mrs. Sara Steffler age 79. She died after a short illness on July 1, 1962, in Roblin district. Interment took place at Roblin District Cemetery. Survived by two sons George and Joe, two daughters Barbara and Eva, a brother Felix, and three grandchildren with one great grandchild.

Tender set for Roblin Hospital renovation

The Roblin District Hospital No 2 governing board opened tenders for alterations to the Roblin Hospital for the proposed Health Unit. F. A. France Construction Co. of Virden, Man. won at 52548 dollars and a contract will be drawn with the Roblin Hospital Board. Work to start after MH SP approval and finish by November 15, 1962.

Go Ahead For Assiniboine Water Plans Assured

S. J. Enns said June 28 federal participation is assured for a multi million dollar flood control and water conservation project on the Assiniboine River Manitoba. Plans include a Shellmouth dam and a diversion canal to Lake Manitoba with total cost about 19 million dollars. Federal and Manitoba governments will share costs equally. PFRA to build Shellmouth dam and Manitoba to build the canal. Construction possible by 1963 at earliest.

Skunk Vies For Chip Shot At Golf Course

Wildlife chatter reports a skunk seen near the No 2 green on Sunday, possibly sizing up a chip. Bears were spotted by the lagoon recently, and during the 4H Parade a calf ran through town toward First Avenue West. A garden quip ends the note with a joke about weeds and potatoes.

Man Drowns In Childs Lake Mishap

A 21 year old Saskatchewan man, Ralph Reles, drowned Sunday at Childs Lake in the Duck Mountain Forest Reserve after the outboard boat he operated overturned in 75 feet of water. Four other passengers were saved in life jackets. he was not equipped. Coroner Dr. Brian Dorran ordered an inquest.

Stock Jocks Play It Rough

The stock car jockeys endured a hectic afternoon at the speedway last Sunday with only two cars still running after a rain soaked, slippery track. Thrills and spills captivated spectators as multiple races claimed many vehicles. A number of Roblin cars and drivers plan to race at the Dauphin Fair on July 13 alongside teams from Treherne Dauphin and Winnipeg.

Miss Joan Beerman Honored At Shower

A shower was held in Deepdale Church on Friday July 6 to honor Miss Joan Beerman of Dauphin formerly of Deepdale bride elect of July 17 about 35 friends and relatives attended and presented a basket of gifts from cousins Cheryl Matthews and Linda Ward while Mrs Walter Ward read the address the evening ended with a singing of For she is a jolly good fellow.

A Confirmation Service will be held at Christ Church Anglican on Sunday July 15 at 12 noon. The Bishop of Brandon Rt Rev I A Norris D D will be present as confirming Bishop. The Altar and Prayer Desk given by the Edwards family in memory of A J Edwards will be dedicated by the Bishop. He will also dedicate the Altar Cross given by Gilbert Clement and Mr and Mrs Walter Clement in memory of Kate Clement who died in 1961.

Largest Inter-District 4 H Rally At Roblin Fair Grounds

The largest club rally in the area drew 343 members and leaders at Roblin Fair Grounds at 10 am on Monday July 9. Home Economics clubs led with seven senior and six junior demonstrations, followed by strong agricultural demonstrations. Awards included Ruth Allerton and Carolyn McDonald as senior girls’ demonstrators, Gwen Hilland crowned rally queen, and T Eaton Gold Watches to Ruth Allerton and Wayne Digby. The event featured a parade, 17 displays, a dress revue, and greetings from local officials and sponsors.
