The Roblin Northstar Senior Hockey Team met with MLCC Inspector Travis Blaine and General Manager Dale Scott to discuss liquor permits. Blaine proposed a Spectator Activity Licence for the arena to allow alcohol at various events, with the issue to be reviewed by the Rec Commission. Also noted: demolition order for Lot 53 Plan 1044 at 349 PTH 83 North.
Rose Lukinski and Grade 1 students earn the School of the Year prize for Manitoba in a Fire Commissioner contest. The 1999 program promotes Learn Not to Burn fire safety for Kindergarten to Grade 3.
The 2006 Boissevain Fair ran June 24-25 attracting 1,200 visitors, similar to prior years. Saturday saw lower attendance due to rodeo cancellation and showers, but about 375 people attended the second ATV mud bog event.
The Assiniboine Rural Health Authority outlines a $32 million project to build a new hospital by 2010 in Neepawa to replace the older 1950 facility that has undergone several upgrades.
Memory Lane, a Gilbert Plains book of stories, memories and pictures, is complete after Sharon Basaraba spent nearly two years gathering material from about 400 families. The project documents local people and businesses with rich community detail.
A 17 year old Dauphin youth wrestled a police Taser from RCMP officers during arrest, deployed it, and fled after pepper spray. Officers and the youth received minor injuries and were treated at Dauphin Regional Health Centre. the youth was remanded in custody.
The Kamsack Museum in the former 1914 powerhouse will receive a full cedar shingle roof. Town council approved the plan with last year’s cost estimate of 26 000 dollars.
