Local Roblin Notes Highlight Social Visits and Hockey Victory

Locals Mr and Mrs Greenaway and family spent the weekend visiting relatives at Gilbert Plains. Miss Margie Brown left for Winnipeg to spend weeks with her sister. Miss Florence Donoghue returned to Thunder Creek to resume school. A Scotch Concert will be held Jan 22 at the I.C.C.F. hall under Union Ladys aid. Admission 2 6d and 1 5c. Salvation Army officers plan a repeat concert on Jan 16. Mr and Mrs R Smallman motor to Wawanesa to spend New Year with friends. they return with Mr and Mrs T C Stephens for a few weeks. A farewell party for David Robi Watson leaving for Vancouver B C was held with over fifty guests. Roblin Junior hockey beat Grandview 9 6 in their first game, part of Manitoba Juvenile Hockey Association playdowns. Grandview to visit Roblin Jan 8 for a return game. Miss Alice Burrell won the best box prize and Miss Iris Diamond the waltz prize at the concert which concluded the evening.

Beginning next Sunday night a minister will start a short sermon series on the book of Revelation titled The Hidden and The Known. The free series warns against doctrines from men and invites all to attend with a Children’s Address titled The Floating Bible and A Most Peculiar Book.

Grand Narrows residents note visitors and family gatherings over Christmas. Ma Grant McKnight returns home briefly as the Toga choir from the Union Church assists a successful local concert and fowl supper. A New Year’s Concert Box Social and Dance on January 1 drew broad attendance and enjoyed by all.

The Bield community reports reopening attendance and local projects. Miss Ruby McNeil joins Roblin teaching staff as Jr. teacher while Spidgeman loads cattle at Roblin. Emma Olson visits relatives in Sturgis Sask and nearby areas. A New Years Ball at Shortdale draws a large crowd and good time. Community notes mention mild winter and grain price recovery, Odin Olson’s photo in McLeod’s sale catalog, and local bicycle track on Jack-Fish Lake. Trustees secured drivers for term at below usual costs. Farmers Union Ball in Roblin promotes camaraderie with the Roblin Lodge. May success attend the Baine Kulberg Orchestra in future ventures.
