Manitoba Hikes Minimum Wage to 5 40 in 1996 Start
Manitoba will raise the minimum hourly wage from 5.25 to 5.40 effective January 1 1996. Labor Minister Vic Toews notes the move places Manitoba in the upper mid range of provinces and maintains a single rate with no youth or trainee differential. The change follows national patterns with BC Ontario and Quebec earning higher minimums. Fewer than two percent of Manitoba workers earn the minimum wage.
