The Russell town council commits 1.5 million over 15 years to revitalize Main Street and boost tourism. Daymon Guillas, co-chair of the revitalization committee, notes the town already offers outdoor attractions and expects the project to strengthen the local economy.
The Bargain Shop employees chose Roblin & District Community Foundation as December’s local charity. Pam Hansen presented the in-store fundraiser proceeds to RDCF members Gail Chescu and Michelle Morral. Foundation volunteers staffed Roblin eateries to raise its profile and support its motto helping us to help our selves.
Crossroads This Week reports the Park West School Division plans a 17.835 million dollar budget, lower overall revenue but a 10.7 percent local levy increase. The special levy would raise about 6.746 million dollars, roughly 65 thousand more than last year, as officials cite a weak local economy and spirits farm conditions.
The Boissevain project by the Family Worship Centre proceeds after a year of delay. Phase 1 covers a 6 000 square foot building as part of a larger facility plan. Elinor Birks’s Souris team achieved an eight ender on February 14 with Rose Bowles Unrau and accompanying prize incentives from Asham.
Manitoba endurance team WOW riders completed 1700 km cross country relay to raise funds for breast cancer. Local SnowTraxx members joined the troupe including organizer Rasia Zegalsky who led a banquet in their honour.
The Minnedosa United Church and its congregation commit to rebuilding, with Rev. Shawn Ankenmann stating a phoenix like rise from the ashes. In Swan River a veterinary clinic clarifies it does not take cats from the public and stresses intake only from town animal control officers and promotes spaying to reduce cats.
Residents of Dauphin toured the new arena as construction heads into its final weeks. Between 350 and 400 people attended the last site walk and many praised the facility, with one man calling it the best arena outside Winnipeg.
The Cornerstone, formerly the Queen's Hotel and Glenboro General Store, built in 1886 and vacant for nine years, is slated for demolition after bids to sell by tender were deemed too low by council.
