Forest Tent Caterpillar Infestation Persists Across Regions
An agriculture report notes a winterlike landscape with scattered egg and larva outbreaks east and southeast of Brandon, southwest of Toulon, and south of Lake Winnipeg. Natural controls such as flesh flies have reduced numbers, but cycles of infestation will continue with a large moth migration aiding spread. The caterpillars mostly target aspen poplar but affect other trees and shrubs, causing nuisance around homes and farms.
