Weather Woes Delay Farmer Meeting and Public Petition

Deepdale visitor Deepdale Miss D. Kelso attended Mrs. Fletcher's Monday gathering. A farmers petition is on view at Ike's store and should be signed promptly. Old Timer notes the cold earlier days and recalls last Wednesday's severe weather that postponed the meeting. another session is hoped for February 22 in the afternoon.

A dying merchant dictates final wishes with dark humor. He instructs that his bank overdraft should go to his wife, his car equity to his son, goodwill to the unply houses, equipment to the junk man, and six creditors be pallbearers who have assisted him so long.

Resolutions Adopted By Roblin A F M At Meeting Feb 4

Resolved that purchasers of improvements be reimbursed if expelled and that private corporations control money and credit. The UFM pledges to push parliament to transfer control to a non political body, secure debt relief for farmers, and demand protective legislation. They urge action in Ottawa to curb long term indebtedness and reform the Bank Act, with calls to reduce car license fees and fund provincial highways. They also seek dissolution of the Manitoba Cooperative Marketing Board, lower interest rates, and an inter provincial conference to cut administration costs.

Mrs L Chisholm has returned home from Winnipeg. An Indian passing through Deepdale was seen last week. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Jack Anderson on their newborn daughter. Mrs A L Anderson attends the Co operative Poultry marketing convention in Brandon. Mr David Chase remains in DauhIn hospital and is progressing well. A successful meeting of the Bield Co operative Elevator Association was held at Bield Hall with Mr John Quick as principal speaker.

The Serkau Cattle Barter and Mennonite Lands Deal

The note links Mr. Serkau to a Russia barter cattle scheme with a one cent per pound commission, and to a Whitewater Mennonite land deal where fees were collected while others bore losses. Taxes were unpaid and land listed for tax sale this year. Also reports a birth: on Feb 15 1933 Mrs Inman's nursing home welcomed a daughter to Mr and Mrs Donald Burns.

A meeting of the Merridale Community Club last Monday focused on a ladies quilt benefiting the club. Fort Franc’s Mr L W Sanders won the rifle raffle. Farmers are informed that Kelly Cockerill’s mill has begun operations.
