The Hillsburg municipal meeting chaired by Reeve Sorbo approves last minutes. The council recommends Harry Chick for Old Age pension and defers herd law changes to Ward 3 with solicitor draft. W. E. Low named assessor for 1945. By laws 172, 170, 171, and 166 passed. Health Officer W A Hicks appointed, transfer of title to Bert Chase approved. Accounts paid. meeting adjourned.

The Canadian corps in Italy decides to form a trade operative postwar open to all servicemen with no profits shared. November Canadian arrear losses are reported at 1998. Smokey Smith of New Westminster is the first Canadian private to win the Victoria Cross in this war. Major Currie notes soldiers’ top concerns: mail from home, sleep, and food in that order.
A pamphlet from the Educational Institute of Scotland advocates sabbatical leave for teachers in Manitoba. It urges seven years of service before eligibility, with seven months abroad or study funded by a central fund. The aim is to refresh teachers, reduce dropouts, and improve school work while fostering new entrants to the profession.
