The Roblin district reports a busy holiday season with many social events. Births include a daughter to the McMatebeots and a son to Rev Robert Harvey. community gatherings feature skating and curling, church and school staff visits, and dances. Local lodges and Farmers Union plan meetings while Santa visits and toy deliveries brighten the season.
The Union Church reports Christmas Tree concerts in Roblin and Cromarty Union charge with a program featuring choir numbers, duets, recitations, and children's performances. Sunday School sessions are scheduled at Tummel 12 noon Cromarty 2 pm Roblin 2 pm, with the Hound of Heaven and Finding Our Diamonds Again among selected subjects and a children’s address.
Crowds overflowed the Roblin Union Church beyond its 250 seat capacity, so the Christmas service was shifted to the 400 seat High School Auditorium. A revival of interest under newly appointed minister Rev. Harvey drew 400 attendees, with next Sunday's service planned for the same hall.
The Church of England announces the next service on Sunday December 30 1923 at 3 50 PM at Roblin Union Church with Christmas music and a sermon. The annual congregational meeting is set for Thursday January 4 1924 at 7 30 PM to elect vestry officers and review the financial report. Confirmation classes begin January 2 1924 with girls and young women at 7 PM and boys and young men at 8 PM at the home of F A Heming.
The Tuxis Boys Club met on Tuesday the 18th and heard an address by Mr Harvey on the aims of a good Tux is Square. Leaders Inglis Waston and Kavangh attended. The Tummel Church Club held its first meeting on Tuesday Dec 11 with Mr W J Inglis presiding and John Inglis secretary.
Tummell notes describe the annual school concert and Christmas tree held at Union Church on Thursday evening the 20th chaired by Mr Harvey with organization by Mr Kavanagh Miss Robinson and Miss Mason. Performances include recitations songs and plays from primary and senior groups plus two praised drills and a Santa Claus visit. Prizes were awarded to students for diligent work and conduct with many names mentioned for commendation.
A New Year greeting celebrates Mr C Williamston winning the Hillsburg Multipality reeve post. Voters turnout praised, with details of polling officers and a community vote indicating broad support. Also notes local Christmas concerts, school programs, and references to youth driving safety and Santa Claus gifts.
Mr and Mrs J G Sinclair visit Grandview for Christmas with Sinclair’s parents. Mr and Miss Peterson depart Makaroff by Friday night train to Gimli Manitoba to spend holidays with relatives. Masquerade dance Friday night at Makaroff hall under Women’s Institute auspices. Stork brings baby girl to Mr and Mrs A Large on December 20. Miss Adamek travels to Winnipeg seeking a near city posting due to her father’s ill health. she will not return to teach in Makaroff.
Stewart Downie visits Mahary sister Mrs McDfee at Bield Sem Johnstonog, Grendvicy P to spend Christmas with Ed. Williamson elected Reeve, Pacykowski Councilor. Allan Lockman returned from Dryden Ontario. Miss L Wells left for Calder Saskatchewan for Miss Melarity wedding. Field folks attended Christmas tree at Shortdale. Community Club plans concert and tree Jan 4. Geo Burrows mourns Winnipeg death of pioneer father on Shell River homestead. School Christmas tree praised. audience amused by The Obstinate Family play and Santa.
