District News From Wa Wa Ontario Christmas Preparations

Gordon Klassen of Wa Wa Ontario returns to re join the airforce after visiting relatives in the district. A Santa Claus parade in Roblin on December 7 delighted many with candies and a free show. Mrs Kirkbride visits Mrs R Davis as health improves. Mr and Mrs R Klassen traveled to Cancra Saskatchewan on December. Preparations for the annual Christmas tree event December 23 continue. Mrs F Hiderman elected secretary for the year. Mrs E Traub elected second vice president. Christmas concert held December 18. Bake Sale planned for January and card parties to be arranged. After adjournment members sang carols and shared a dainty lunch after gifts.

Makaroff Shower Honors Mrs Giest at Home

A December Firh shower at Mrs A Taylor’s home honored Mrs Eric Giest nee Arlene Beck with thanks for gifts. Attendees included both grandmothers mother and mother in law. Community mourns Gardner family loss.

Makaroff Ladies Aid Holds Annual Meeting With Eleven Members

The Makaroff Ladies Aid met at Mrs. H. Boyce home on Thursday December 5 with twelve members and three visitors present. President Mrs. E. Boyce opened with Silent Night and the Lord's Prayer. Reports were given including a 1957 financial report by Mrs. F. Grundy. A $10 donation to the Sunday School Xmas tree was approved and officers for 1958 were elected with Mrs. C. Robinson 2nd vice-president and other posts assigned. Meeting ended with Mispah benediction and a lunch hosted by Mrs. Boyce and Mrs. La Landes. The January meeting will be at Mrs. A. Taylor's home.

The December gathering of the Makaroff Women's Institute met at Mrs. Walter Rogers home with eleven members and two visitors present. Mrs. G Van Drecht served as secretary for the session.

Christmas Concert At Tummel Sunday School

On Sunday December 8 the Tummel Sunday School held its Christmas concert with 38 children performing. Fifty-six children attended at some point during the year and eighty people shared lunch after prizes and gifts were distributed. The children brought white gifts later packed for Rev. Douglas at St Andrew's Church in Winnipeg.

Tummel Sunday School Christmas Concert Held Sunday

The Tummel WA Sunday School held a Christmas meeting at Mrs C O Robin's home with twelve ladies. A parcel was packed for Neepawa Senior Citizens' Home, gifts exchanged, and children received gifts. Lunch was served. The next meeting will be at Mrs Wm Livingstone's on January 8 with roll call and suggestions for 1958. Participants may bring cards to reuse and a quilt will be in the frames to work on.

Annual Christmas Vesper Service by C.G.I.T.

The C. G. I. T. held its annual Christmas Vesper Service on Sunday in the United Church with girls in charge led by Mrs. Waddell. Readers included Carol Andrews Sandra Yeo and Gloria Ziehkle, the group sang Silent Night, and six girls carried the candle pageant. Proceeds support the National C. G. I. LT. Committee of the Canadian Council of Churches.

Baptisms at Christ Church Roblin

Eight children were baptised into the Church of God in the past month at Christ Church Roblin with Rev. J F Conlin officiating. The children named are John Arthur Nott Blaine Francis Mitchell Barbara Daphne Mitchell Morton Brett Cockerill Christopher James Cockerill Nancy Elizabeth Bailes David Herbert Poyser and Charles Duncan Engen.

Pioneer Resident Mrs D McNeill Dies at 94

Mrs Daniel McNeill longtime Roblin district pioneer died at her son George's home in Stony Mountain Manitoba on Friday December 3 1957 aged 94 years 7 months born Morristown Ontario May 13 1863 married Daniel McNeill July 5 1882 at Teeswater Ontario later moved with husband to Teeswater area and settled in Roblin district

Mrs McNeill 60th wedding anniversary obituary note

Mr. McNeill died in May 1943. Mrs. McNeill, first President of the Presbyterian Ladies Aid Roblin organized 1906 and Life Member of United Church Ladies Aid August 1988. Charter Member of Woman's Missionary Society. Survived by five sons and four daughters, 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at Roblin United Church with interment at Reblin District Cemetery. Literary pallbearers listed.

By-Law Mandates Calfhood Vaccination In Shellmouth
