Pioneers of Roblin and early townsite days

At the Roblin W L meeting in December 1901 to 1902 Amott recalls survey work along the Shell valley and the failed CPR route. North settlers Johnson McNicol Sawyer and Lee Brothers, plus traders Gill Brydon and Crawford built town infrastructure as Roblin developed after 1908. The piece ends with notes on stores, a blacksmith, and a promised continuation.

Roblin locals report Evangeline Lodge hosting an 800 Drive Friday in the 1.0 F hall with 85 cent admission. The Manitoba Cooperative Poultry Association shipped over 7000 lbs of dressed poultry from Roblin on December 6. Funeral services were held for James Michal McDaffe, age 48, with burial at Roblin cemetery. Curling season opens with 19 rinks, a turkey supper, and Elk’s Masquerade Ball lights up the Assembly Hall with purple and white decor.

Masquerade Ball Draws Dancers and Dress Parade

Costumes of dancers made a striking scene as the Ball Hall opened. The floor was reserved for costumed attendees before judging, then all joined in the dancing to the Baine orchestra. Lunch followed after midnight and dancing lasted into the morning. The Queen of the Masquerade was Miss Mabel Wright, the country nominee.
