Roblin Ladies Rest Room Committee Sees Officer Resignations

At the November meeting the original officers Mrs McDuffe and Mrs Dayson resigned as president and secretary respectively. New officers named include President Mrs Carl Andres and Secretary-Treasurer Mrs G Souter with a vice president to be elected. The report outlines the Rest Room building funded by local donations and maintained by the committee.

Maguire services held in Togo for longtime resident

Funeral services for Jeremiah Macaire Togo were held at St Pauls United Church on December 8 at 2 PM. Interment followed in Togo cemetery with pallbearers listed. Wilson Funeral Home of Kamsack coordinated arrangements. Maguire, born June 26 1892 in Haliburton Ontario, moved to Togo district in 1905, married Gladys Burrell in 1923, died December 5 1960 at home. Survived by wife three sons two daughters twelve grandchildren five brothers and numerous inlaws.

Togo Legion Auxiliary Elect New Officers

The Lad ies Auxiliary Togo Branch of the Canadian Legion met at Mrs E Hackneys home and elected officers for 1961. President Mrs G Gawley first vice Mrs L Abercrombie second vice Mrs H Olson Secretary Mrs E Hackney Treasurer Mrs P Bettin S Bearer Mrs M Peppler Ways and Means Mrs Bettin and Mrs Hackney Sick and Visiting Mrs Peppler Twenty dollars was voted for Soldiers comforts plus knitted socks for veterans hospital Christmas party was cancelled with plans for a winter or spring event January host Mrs H Lee for installation of officers New members welcomed.

Shell River Council Meets in December 7 1960 Session

Rural Municipality of Shell River held its regular council meeting on Wednesday December 7 1960 with Reeve F H Wilson presiding and all members present. The minutes of November 2 and the November 18 special meeting were adopted. Snowplow grants were discussed along with payment of November accounts totaling 42 275 29. Health duties and donations were considered with the Reeve to receive 400 and a 10 donation to Manitoba Heart Foundation. Next meeting set for January 3 1961 at 10:00 a.m.

Holiday Proclaimed With December Closure Dates

A holiday is proclaimed with business closures set for December 21st through 23rd and closing at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday December 24th, then remaining closed until Wednesday December 28th.

Plans Underway For Annual Curling Bonspiel

The Roblin Curling Club held a general meeting at 8 p m on Friday December 9 to form committees for the February 13 Bonspiel. Bonspiel Secretary is R McBain with C Brade assisting. prize, banquet, and advertising committees named. rinks to be drawn December 19 with a December 17 closing date. Curling fees are 15 per member with 5 installments possible, due by bonspiel time.

Farm Power Machinery Management course for farmers

Brandon Agricultural Extension Centre hosts a winter course on farm power machinery management. The program runs January 16 to 30 with agricultural engineers teaching topics from tractor selection and testing to tillage equipment, grain drying, sprayers, and the Farm Equipment Act as it applies to buyers.

Christ Church W A held its annual meeting on December 7 at Mrs. L Hembroff’s home. Officers for 1961 were elected, including President Mrs LeRoy Waters and Vestry Representative Mrs Waters. Installation for new officers will occur at a January dedication service, and a Christmas party for children is set for December 17 at 3 p.m. Rev Leslie Daley offered a closing prayer.

Needle threading zinger at 4-H class sparks laughter

A first year girl struggles to thread a needle at a Drapevine 4-H Sewing class. Her leader quips she will never thread it in ten years. The girl retorts she hopes to have children by then who can do it.

The Watch Tower Society sponsors the gathering with A George and V R Duncombe in attendance and a Sunday December 25 3 p m address Is God Interested In The Affairs Of Mankind. Ladies Curling Club sets 11 rinks for season

The Ladies' Curling Club met December 11 with eleven rinks entered for the season. The roster includes E. Reyda, Mrs Huff, Doris Keast and Vera Broda, plus ten other teams with players named. associate members W. Dietrich, R. Layng and C. Keast. Playdowns occur in Roblin January 16, 1961, and the Bonspiel on February 20, 1961.

Hospital Aid Meeting Sets Plans for Christmas Fund Drive

The Hospital Aid met December 6 at 2 30 pm with 18 members led by President Mrs A Wilson. The buying committee displayed blankets bedthrows shower curtains and fabric plus infant vests and thread. A motion to buy rubber sheeting flanelette replace bed lamps and utility tables was approved. The sewing committee accepted completed articles from last month and gifts from the Roblin Women's Institute and 4-H group. The board discussed hospital preparations and plans with an architect visit upcoming. The hospital cart, carnival queen, and festive treats were noted for December.

Tired Old Press Keeps Papers Delayed Thanks to Neighbors

The Grandview Exponent and its Garth and Ina Chan ners helped finish a late Review issue when a worn press failed. Subscriptions were mailed a day late after transporting half finished pages to Grandview for a final run, then returning them for addressing.

Mrs Nellie Koroluk Visits Regina Area

Mrs Nellie Koroluk of Elbow Saskatchewan visits Mr and Mrs Henry Chick for a couple of days on her return trip from Welland Ontario. Mr and Mrs Steve Filewich accompany other Regina visitors with Stefacia Filewich and Russell Chick families.

Gardner Home Razed By Fire Near Roblin

On Tuesday afternoon December 13 the home of Wilf Gardner located 32 miles southeast of Roblin was destroyed by fire leaving four adults and four children homeless with only the clothing they wore and a few items saved from the main floor. Community clothing drives at Roblin United Church seek sizes including ladies 20 and children 12 to 14 10 and 2 to 4 years boys 6 years men 42 and 46. Some insurance was carried on the building.
