Regulations for Safety Legislation on Restraints and Helmets
Highways Minister John Plohman announces upcoming safety legislation effective January 1, 1884. The plan regulates seat belts child restraints and motorcycle helmets with exemptions for law officers medical staff taxi drivers and certain older or special vehicles. Public inquiries are to be directed to a dedicated office and free brochures will be available from Autopac and motor vehicle branches.

A Footnote to History on Manitoba’s Churchill Port
The dream of a railway to Hudson Bay and a major port there dates to the 1860s in Manitoba. Funding, war, and competition from the Panama Canal stalled and later reshaped the project. Construction resumed in 1926 with a terminal at Churchill, but the port never became major. even 1956 showed limited grain exports, and the St Lawrence seaway further diminished its prospects.

Grants Awarded to Improve Rural Recreation Facilities
Culture Minister Eugene Kostyra announced grants totalling 45 650 dollars awarded to 12 communities under the Recreation Facilities 82 84 program funded by lottery revenues. Grants fund renovations to conserve energy cut costs boost use and extend facility life. R M Hillsburg received 2000 dollars for Bield Community Centre renovations.
