District News Highlights Social Visits and Club Reports

District News notes visits by Mr and Mrs Sanders to Winnipeg and by Mr Harry Lovas from Nanoose Bay to relatives. Mr and Mrs Reg Ward and family holidayed with the Kerrs. Wm Sanders and daughter visited their parents. Mildred Kerr visited relatives. The November Women s Institute met at Mrs Wm Angus s home and elected officers for the coming year. December s meeting will be a Christmas party at Mrs Fowler s home on December 15 at 2 p.m with lunch served.

Mrs Jas Sharp visits with her daughter Mrs P Harlow of Dauphin then heads to Edmonton and the west coast for a three month stay. Mr and Mrs E J Cryderman travel with them. J Lawrence and family of Dauphin visit Mrs Molly Staub. J McDonald of Rossburn moves to the station for work. Walter Sorbo of Roplin visits with F Hampson. A Whist Drive hosted by Ruth Chapter Eastern Star was held in the Community Hall.

Deepdale Whist Drives Highlight Kingston Social Scene

Deepdale residents report a first season Whist Drive at the Jouiffe home with six tables. Winners include Leon Joulffe and Mrs G Charman, with consolation prizes to Mrs J Stinson and Wm Wallace. Proceeds reached $6. A second drive at the Stinsons drew seven tables. Jack Stinson and Mrs M Somers won top prizes, with consolations to Mrs G Charman and Fred Hilderman. Further drives paused for Christmas planning. News notes also mention Garth McKenzie securing winter work in Kingston and various visits, with a playful update about the reporter's snowbound delay.

Cromarty Wilson Edwards has returned from two years of army service in Germany and is visiting his sister and brother in law Mr and Mrs W Thompson. Welcome home Wilson. Mr and Mrs C A McDuffe of Yarbo Saskatchewan spent the weekend with relatives here. Mrs Robin Watson mourns the death of her brother in law Mr D Smith.

Christmas Tree Event Promises Santa Visit Friday

Mrs Wateen left by bus Tuesday. We extend sympathy to Mr and Mrs Watson. The Community Christmas Tree will be held in the hall on Friday December first at 8 o'clock. Any items for the programme will be appreciated. Come and see Santa. No admission.

Mak aroff Ladies Aid elects year officers at December meeting

Mak aroff Ladies Aid held its annual meeting at Mrs Harvey Boyce home on Thursday December 1 with twelve members present. Officers elected for the coming year include President I R Beattie Vice President Everett Boyce Second Vice President Ivan Boyes Secretary Treasurer Frank Grundy. Committee lists cover Sewing Welfare Shower Hospital Aid and Young People Meeting. Other notes mention 4H Club Week in Winnipeg Jean Beattie moving to Melfort and Emna Grundy returning from Roblin.

Grand Narrows 4H Seed Club Holds Annual Fair

The Grand Narrows 4H Seed Club staged its annual fair at Grand Narrows Hall with judging by Ag Reps Cam Brown Roblin Eunic Ethelbere and Hill Dauphin. A 1951 Monarch for sale advertised by Pete Theissen Roblin. Also notes on Farm Union meetings in Legion Rooms December 15 and 19 with guest Jake Schulz and delegates’ reports.

Vernon Murray won first prize with Billy Radford second and Maynard Dixon third, Murray Framingham fourth. Seed Club members served lunch. Master Everett Wilson visited his uncle Howard. Neighbors reported earning a payout from delivering grain to Pool Elevator in Makaroff. Over 11,0000 dollars in dividends paid last week.
