Gordon and Lori Natrasony face an $11,500 charge to install a new telephone line to their home. MTS says the line must be installed by the company, with a $6,000 provisioning allowance reducing costs for one mile of line. any excess is the customer’s responsibility. The couple were unaware of this charge and potential contractor option.
A new True Value Hardware store opens September 1 in Shoal Lake. Operated by Glendon Short and family, it will offer hardware, housewares and toys in 4000 square feet with a staff of four. Existing options include Wilson's Home Hardware and Shoal Lake Building Supply Pro Hardware.
The Russell Banner reports CanAmera will close its Harrowby canola processing plant on September 1. Thirty six full time and twelve part time staff received layoff notices on August 18. The shutdown stems from shrinking margins in Western Canada, lower capacity utilization, seed supply constraints, and labour negotiation impasse.
Local boys helped the Grandview Lakers defeat the Dauphin Brewers in a three game series for their first league championship. Herb Andres earned his 10th win in 10 starts as Clark and Ben homered in a 9-4 victory. In the second game against the Oak River Dodgers, Andres notched his 11th win, Brook faced Jason McTavish with a late rally producing key RBIs, and Dale Hiebert made a dazzling left field catch to seal the win.
