North America Built From Seven Microcontinents, Says Scientist
Dr. Paul Hoffman of the Geological Survey of Canada argues that North America formed from seven microcontinents that coalesced into Laurentia about 1.85 billion years ago. New zircon dating links collisions to Precambrian rocks, while later heat produced igneous rocks across the continent.

Phototoxins From Plants Could Aid Mosquito Control
University of Ottawa researchers report plant produced phototoxins burn insects that eat them and may combat malaria vectors such as mosquitoes and black flies. Thiophenes from marigolds and St John’s Wort absorb sunlight to release a toxin, degrade within days, and are highly effective against larvae at tiny dilutions with minimal impact on other life. public health use would require WHO backing.
