Rapeseed Harvesting Ripeness and Swathing Guidelines

Selecting the proper ripeness stage is crucial for rapeseed harvest. Swathing should start at 20 to 25 percent brown seeds, with green pods remaining. if overripe, harvest in high humidity. Cut below the lowest seed pods to minimize windrow material and use high stubble to reduce shattering. Use straw spreaders to avoid residue toxicity. Dry seed humidity up to 10.5 percent. Grain dryer use limited to 110 F for seed, 130 F for commercial. Canada Number 1 Grade requires 52 lb bushel, minimal damaged seeds, and low heat damage.
