Gas lines laid in Roblin as natural gas nears delivery

Natural gas distribution work is underway in Roblin with Banister Construction under Inter-City Gas Utilities Ltd. The franchise covers St. Lazare to Dauphin via Binscorth Russell Inglis Roblin Grandview and Gilbert Plains. Main line installed feeder lines laid in back lanes. gas expected by September.

Transmission Line On Way To Roblin Progress Update

Work on a six inch main gas line from Trans-Canada Pipe Lines Ltd extends about 108 miles to Roblin with feeder work from Inglis to Roblin at daily rates of three to four miles. Roblin sees 32000 feet of pipe this week including lines along Hospital Street and No 5 Highway and a 3 inch feeder to St Vladimir's College. John Cadieux says crews will reach Roblin in about three weeks for business and home connections, mostly 3/4 inch piping.

July proved busy for Town Constable Peter Juba with fifteen appearances this month. Liquor Control Act fines included Lucas Swan River $35 and Andreson Bield $105. Three By-law fines were issued to Lucier San Clara $32.50 Langan Roblin $17.50 Bercier Roblin $32.50. Criminal Code penalties included Ronellenfitch Roblin $54 Klemecki Deepdale $14 Paul San Clara $14 Korzeniowski Stornoway sentenced to one month. Three juvenile cases and five adult liquor cases plus one Criminal Code case await later dates.

Beware of Wood Ticks Warning for Travelers and Campers

A public health note explains wood ticks can burrow into skin causing bites. Ticks are brown about a quarter inch long with eight legs. Daily skin checks are advised and to avoid pulling the body to prevent head retention and infection.

The Shell River Municipal Council met August 4 1965 with Reeve F H Wilson presiding. Accounts totaling 12124.04 were approved for July payments. Mrs M Yaholnitsky will receive prescription drugs and school supplies at Mitchells Drug Store. InterCity Gas Utilities plans RLN DD-7 and RLN DD-3 were approved. A bylaw to authorize a vote on By-law No 165 for Makaroff Consolidated School District No 1236 was passed. Second reading given to a bylaw consolidating Sunny Slope SD No 1298 with Goose Lake Consolidated SD No 1283 with no objections. Nellie Maluga received a $10 tax rebate for road rent on NW 15-28-28.

North Manitoba Forest Fire Hazard Rises to High in North

Manitoba forest protection director A W Braine warns fire danger ranges from moderate in the south to high in northern woods despite scattered rains. Lightning causes most fires and dry lightning storms recently swept Manitoba toward Ontario. Fire counts show 503 fires by end of July 1964, 127 so far in 1965, with August often the peak.

Henderson wins Cannaught Cup at Ottawa shoot

Sgt W J Henderson wins the Cannaught Cup at the RCMP annual shoot in Ottawa with 199 of 200 possible points. Cpl Dzikowski and Sgt Henderson competed, with Dzikowski representing Alberta and Henderson representing Yukon and NWT. Ten other RCMP members took part in the event.

Roblin Band Attends Langenburg Celebration

The Roblin Community Youth Band joined the Langenburg parade on Tuesday afternoon then staged a marching demonstration and concert. Const. Mike McMahon led the band during the march and band master Archie Beach directed the evening performance after returning from a six week Chicago course. The group seeks many new members this fall and invites interested families to fill out the application form elsewhere in the paper.
