Preston Manning praised local reformers who grew the party membership to over 1200 in Dauphin Swan River and said the Reform Party aims to win the constituency in the next election with a federal vote likely in fall or early 1993.
Ciprian Alexandru a five year old from Bucharest and his mother Viorica arrived in Manitoba on June 3 1992 with sponsors Lloyd and Sharon Small of Brandon to obtain life saving heart surgery. Ciprian underwent a six hour operation on June 24 and has recovered with energy and good health, marking a special reward for his mother and Brandon sponsors. Dr George Collins of the Variety Childrens Heart Centre oversees the case.
Brenda Shearer earns a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Manitoba. Ciprian’s surgery described as a complete success with hopes for a normal adult life. Variety Club International contributes $5,000 toward medical and travel costs, with total expenses between $15 000 and $18 000. The Alexandras will stay in Canada until early August before returning to their home. Ciprian and his mother plan time with Sharon’s parents Joe and Mary Zetariuk in Inglis.
