Manitoba Premieres Push for National Agriculture Reforms
Agriculture Minister Jim Downey outlined Manitoba’s stance as Western premiers press for higher wheat prices, grain marketing reforms, and harmonized stabilization programs. They urged faster rail upgrades, better grain handling at Churchill and Prince Rupert, lower tariffs, and a shift away from ad hoc federal policies. The Legislature discussed Craik’s April 10 budget amid rural Manitoba gains from a $2.8 million CCIL loan guarantee and a new Morden factory project creating about 150 jobs.
