Trapping memoir by Grandview outfitter Vander Meer
Local outfitter Dave Vander Meer of Sleeping Giants Outfitters in Grandview self-publishes The Call of the Wilderness A Trapper's Tale recounting his early days in Ontario at age 18. The memoir covers two months in the wild, building a shelter, wolves on the trail, and a lifelong trapper's story inspired by reading Trap Lines North. Vander Meer began writing in 2012, finished in four months, and promotes his book online and in Manitoba outlets including GV Pharmacy Black's Sporting Goods and Parkland Bakery. He also produces trapping videos, starting March 5 with 175 plus subscribers, now totaling 35 videos, and is working on a second self-published novel.
