Makaroff News Rural School Reopens After Break

Mrs Elliott and Charlie visited Roblin with friends during the week while teaching staff returned and the school reopened on Monday. Messrs Walter Crane and Leslie Spear spent Easter holidays with parents and resumed duties last Saturday. The W.L. thanks donors for winter hot school lunches. An English supper and concert under the Ladies Aid featured patriotic songs and talks by Rev Robert Harvey and Rev Mr Gardner.

Milwaukee visitor and local farm notes

Mrs Chas Kapey of Milwaukee visits the Korwaleskys while John Hrenkin plans a homestead start. Nicholas Zibresky bought four horses and a single disc drill from Mrs P Fedorchuk. Local farmers prep for spring work as Miss Katie Komarinsky resigns and heads to Portage La Prairie for the summer.

The Soldier Settlement Board hopes to establish a settler and family from Scotland by mid May. A storm disrupted a church supper program but a good crowd attended with local ladies hosting and a brief program by named local artists followed by the National Anthem.

Grand Narrows School Reopens With Concert Dance

Grand Narrows reopened on a Tuesday in April with Miss Orth of Winnipeg as teacher and Mr FB Howell of Dauphin visiting. The Boys and Girls Club event at UFM Hall on April 9 featured a short play songs and recitations and ended with dancing to about 3 am. Ticket sales at the door brought in 26.50 and attendees appeared to enjoy the evening.

Bus Saunders Deepdale made a woods trip while Teddy Saunders and Chas Cockerill kept their engines running. Forest rangers McNeil and Halverson photographed Leslie Rolston as a bushman during timber tenure surveying.
