Increased Markets for Vegetables Spur Manitoba Irrigation
Manitoba ventures into irrigation as markets grow for vegetables and special crops. In 1961 Manitoba irrigated about 5000 acres, with studies under way across several areas to assess cheap water, land suitability, processing facilities, and local willingness to shift cropping. Potential sites include Portage la Prairie Carberry Pembina Triangle and river basins along Red Assiniboine and Pembina.
