Home town cradle of self-government urged in Manitoba
An editorial argues that apathy in municipal elections harms democracy. It notes many offices are filled by acclamations and urges ratepayers to form local associations to sustain public interest, elect capable candidates, and reduce empty seats. It cites Collier's warning on home town governance and highlights progress where public spirit exists.

Absent-Minded Passengers Leave Many Things Behind
Railway travellers in Toronto generate a mountain of unclaimed baggage and abandoned items. Charlie Hutchings catalogs the finds for the Canadian National Magazine, selling them after a year. This year's auction cleared six truckloads including a bath tub, easel, umbrellas, strollers, cigaret lighters, cameras, and 175 suitcases. Some bidders scored big, like a kit bag with $800 in a boot toe and a bag containing 500 shares of gold stock that later rose to $20 a share. Hutchings fears next year will beat records for variety and volume.
