Elizabeth Ann Frank, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W H Frank, Carnegie, wed Cpl Elmer Norman Schafer, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Edward Schafer, Three Hills Alta, at CIATC Protestant chapel. Rev W G Chapman officiated. Bride wore a strapless white nylon net gown with brocaded watin bolero, fingertip veil hand embroidered by Miss Elizabeth Bromiley. Wedding Bell Tones At Rivers In Manitoba Ceremony

Muriel and Cpl Keith Gagnon wore RCAF uniforms as did ushers Luc Allan Larson and ACI John Schwarz. Music by Mrs. W. G. Chapman and Miss Kathleen Frank set the mood before vows, with a reception at the bride’s parents’ home. A three tier cake with sweetpeas crowned the table, and toasts followed by Mr. Chapman and the groom. Afterward Cpl Schafer heads to Luffenham England. Mrs Schafer soon to join. Various local visits and travels noted. Church activities report Sunday school restart at St James after summer recess. E R Jahrig of Lethbridge departs after two weeks with the Bellamys. The Ford Richardson party from Port Arthur toured the district. E G D Freeman of United College Winnipeg will preach Oct 18 at Rivers United Church. WA fowl supper to accompany anniversary observance.

Theatre Passes at Gazette Office Good for Rex Theatre

The Gazette office offers theatre passes to the Rex theatre for any performance in the coming week. One pass per resident from Rivers and Daly municipalities, chosen from this year’s electors list. Gerald Grummett of Rivers and W. J. Sibbard of Alexander must call by 6:00 p.m. Saturday to collect.

Rebekahs Attend Church Service Here

Friendship Rebekah lodge Rivers paid tribute to a departed sister at St James Angllican church service Sunday evening. A hall parade led to the service where Sydn Ldr Rev B G Stibbards was guest speaker. Choir sang Gently Lord O gently lead us as Mrs J H Cluff received a veterans jewel from Mrs W G Thomas after the meeting.

Winnipeg reports $2,900,000 collected toward a $3,000,000 objective for a joint hospital building fund. The drive continues as organizers push for the remaining 100,000 to complete the target.

Rural Manitoba seeks funds for new children's hospital

A fundraising drive in rural Manitoba aims to raise 7.5 million dollars from public, corporate, and government sources to finance a new 256 bed children hospital and major additions to the general hospital. Officials target completion by early October.

School students will make a house to house canvas for new members for the home and school association. The plan was adopted at a Tuesday meeting where membership need was stressed. A social hour with bingo followed, and lunch was served.
