Gazette reports a Victory Loan drive scheme awarding the Governor General’s flag to Manitoba localities that reach quotas. Rivers' quota is $29,440 with a target of $60,160. crowns are added for overfilling quotas, with at least one crown expected for every place.
The 1918 Victory Loan Drive started Monday to fund the Dominion. Rivers will canvass houses early and local organizers are named including Chairman Rev. Duckworth and Messrs Dunsmore Couch Grieve Grimmett Cunningham and McKenzie Daly Ty Royal Municipality Reeve and Councillors lead the drive urging town and country to exceed quotas.
Banks announce support for small investors in the 1918 Victory Loan. They will lend up to 90 percent of the investment on probable repayment within a year and charge 5 3 6 percent interest. Banks will also hold interim securities and later the bonds themselves at no charge for up to a year.
Mrs Porteous expresses heartfelt gratitude through the Gazette to Rivers readers for kindness and sympathy after the loss of her son Nelson who died for his country. The note says the support has been a great comfort to her.
