Poem-like tribute recounts a brother's farewell as he dies in a foreign field. Family inserts reflect missing hoped reunion and eternal rest in a better land. Brothers and sister Emma along with Sam convey grief and memory in a sombre memorial verse.
A day of remembrance to recall a deplore nephew missed by us and mourned in silence. His uncle aunt and cousins of Rivers insert the memory of days that have been.
The family extends gratitude to friends and neighbors for kindness and sympathy after a bereavement. They also thank the Knox Church Congregation, Rivers, for the wreath of flowers. Signed Mrs. Edward White and Family.
Rivers Methodist Church marked its anniversary with a Sunday and Monday program led by Rev. R. E. Spence of Hamiota. The morning and evening services featured singing, a duet by Mrs. Anderson and Miss Shaver, and a solo by J. Grummett. A Monday concert at Wagar Hall included violin solos by A. C. Stuart and readings by Miss Leybourne, with performances by Rapid City Quartett and Dr. Rose. Revs A Hall and H B Duckworth delivered cordial greetings.
Returned Soldiers of Rivers district stage a dance at Wagar Hall next Wednesday in Std. A guest list promises good music and a supper at no charge. Robi. Mills acts as floor manager with Hall, Supper, and Dance committees handling arrangements led by H. Rea W. McKenzie C. McFadden J. Richards Sid Bainton C. Gruggan V. Higginson F. Walker M. Willison A. C. Stuart D. A. Rutherford C. F. Higginson R. Dyer respectively.
The government proposes a Victory Loan of 300 million at five and a half percent taxable bonds to be financed in Canada. Proceeds will retire obligations, fund soldiers gratuities and land settlement, support grain financing, shipbuilding and industrial reconstruction, and are earmarked for Canadian use only. The plan argues domestic funding avoids exchange loss and regional burden, endorsing safe, diversified investments over risky securities.
