Rivers Board of Trade Banquet Praises Public Service

The Rivers Board of Trade annual banquet at the Alexandra Hotel drew over fifty guests including B T Chappell and other Canadian National Railway officials from Winnipeg and Brandon. Dr J R C Evans of Brandon College spoke on the history and purpose of Boards of Trade, urging Canadians to devote their best to the nation's development.

Lansdowne by election set for November 10

Ten years ago the Lansdowne by election date was fixed for November 10 with Dr. Hicks as Conservative candidate and Donald G. McKenzie for the Progressives and Liberals. Matt Orth sold his barber shop to S. L. Kenyon. Rivers is asked for £30,000 in the Victory Loan Drive while Daly is asked for £60,000. The Spanish Flu worsens and masks may become compulsory. The Lieut Governor requests a daily minute of prayer and all Manitoba telephone switchboards will be silent from noon to 12.01. One year ago William Cook, father of Mrs. Alec Beattie and Pred Cook, died.

Rivers School Board Monthly Meeting

The Rivers School Trustees held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday October 19 at 5 00 pm with J T Bowman presiding. Resolutions adopted include minutes of last meeting and accounts totaling 1054 paid. A payment of 80000 to Great West Life Assurance Co on Debenture No H211 was approved. Principal and Attendance Officer September reports were read and filed. Meeting adjourned.
