The note also traces a Rivers origin and Nakomis move of the late Mr. Smith.

Mary Sellar Reflects on Quebec’s Good Old Days

Montreal obituary note recalls Mary Watson Sellar 88 widow of Robert Sellar founder of the Huntingdon Gleaner who wrote a guest editorial for the 85th anniversary of Quebec province weekly. She cites a time when daily wages were $1 and good house servants cost $3 a month. Sellar died in 1919 after 36 years as editor and publisher.

Second counts reshape Alberta riding ballots in CCF defeat

Edmonton Journal notes in two Alberta ridings the CCF candidates were placed low by voters. Nearly 2500 ballots showed most marked no second choice with about 1960 plumpers. Among 6006 CCF supporters who marked full ballots, a majority chose the Social Credit candidate as second. Hostility from CCB leaders to Manning government didn’t reach rank and file.
