Obituary for James McFadden of Rivers District
Retired Irish born farmer James McFadden died September 28 at his son's home in Rivers after years of poor health. Born 1866 in County Armagh he emigrated to New York 1890 then moved to Manitoba in 1893, farming 44 years in Daly Rural Municipality. He served as director and president of the Rivers Agricultural Society and was on the Rivers School Trustee Board, a United Church member, and active in the Loyal Orange Lodge. Funeral in Rivers United Church was followed by interment at Rivers cemetery with Orange Order rites. He leaves a widow, four sons Chester William Hugh Earl and John Wood, and three daughters. The town council met October 2 and approved several measures including land sale, tax appeals, and bylaw actions.

Women leaders study Home Crafts under Mrs Ames lesson
The first lesson for leaders of the Home Crafts Course will be conducted by Mrs. Ames from the Extension Department on Saturday October tenth at 10 30 am in the Council Chamber. Leaders should bring notebook pencil two knitting needles yarn. Mrs Ames displays the Women's Institute Loan Collection of Handicrafts at 3 pm in the I C C F Hall. A 15 cent lunch is served by the Rivers Women's Institute.
