Obituary for Thomas Workman Airey of Rivers District
After a long illness, Thomas Workman Airey of Lothair district died Sunday at Brandon hospital. Born June 20, 1866 in England, he immigrated to Canada at 20, lived in Ontario, then moved to Alexander Manitoba, and later farmed west of Rivers. Funeral at Rivers United Church with interment in Rivers cemetery. Survived by widow, eight children, four sons and four daughters, two brothers in England, two sisters abroad, and four daughters in Rivers and Kemnay.

Pioneer farmer Thomas McKellar dies at 86 in district
Thomas McKellar a respected pioneer and farmer died early Monday in his 87th year after years of poor health. Born in Elgin County Ontario on June 15 1853 he came west in 1878 and freighting by oxen and log drive work marked his early years. Funeral was held Wednesday with Rev W R Donagh officiating and Rivers cemetery burial. Survived by three sons John Russell Archie and two daughters Mrs John Gordon and Alice. one son and two daughters remain at home. wife predeceased him three years ago.

Unlawful Handling of Meat Under Winter Slaughter Permits
The Public Health Act requires slaughter in licensed plants but allows farmers to slaughter their own animals for sale during December February with free permits. Meat may be sold by carcass side or quarter if processed cleanly and handed over satisfactorily. Permits are issued free of charge by the Division of Food Control Health and Public Welfare.
