A. J. Dalrymple profiles W. C. Stearman a hardware dealer who uses humorous advertisements to attract customers in a Vancouver daily paper. He says funny copy brings financial rewards and friends as he touts rat traps and shares his views on advertising.
Mr Dalrymple questions policies as Owen Sound hardware man Mr Stearman, 71, recalls Vancouver 1898 visit. He sides with crazy advertising, saying his rat traps outsell rivals because no one else advertises. An old man walked five miles to buy two five cent traps, passing many stores.
