A town meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday elected officers for the Ladies' Baseball Club. President Miss G Johnstone Sec Treas Miss G Dunsmore Captain Miss Jessie Miners Manager W A Webster Executive Committee plans a league of baseball clubs in Rivers Penden nis and Carnegie.
Rivers School teachers and pupil body acknowledge help for a Tea, Sales of Cooking and Candy event. Receipts totaled 20.55 dollars with 5.75 dollars spent on utensils and 6.65 dollars on Tea. Net proceeds were 13.90 dollars to fund future kitchen needs and hot lunches next fall. daily hot beverage or soup will cost one cent per pupil.
The U V S executive meeting failed to reach a quorum but a discussion on community issues occurred. A Free Press Radio expert reportedly offers for the Sunday School Boys Choir, while Sunday School library book donations are urged. Carnation Tag Day raised 15 dollars for the General Mission Fund.
Pacific Lodge No. 71 10 C F and Friendship Rebekah Lodge No. 27 announce an anniversary service on Sunday June 4 at St James Church. Rev A R Hall will address the brethren and sisters. Brethren meet at the Hall 2 30 pm depart for church 2 45 pm Rebekah members assemble at church. All brothers and sisters invited.
Applications will be received by the undersigned up to June 23 for the privilege of supplying meals on the Fair Grounds at the Summer Fair to be held July 14. J. T. Bowman, Sec. Treas.
Tenders invited by the undersigned to sell soft drinks and ice cream at the Summer Fair on July 14. Tenderers must state prices to the public. Tenders close June 23. T Bowman Secretary Treasurer.
The regular meeting of the Institute will be held on Wednesday May 31 at 3 o'clock at the home of Mrs. A J Madden. A short course in practical dressmaking will be held at the school the week commencing June 5 with Miss McElmurry of the Extension Service Department as lecturer. All ladies are invited to attend.
All parties are warned against allowing cattle or horses to stray onto the Rivers Agricultural Society grounds by order of the Board of Directors.
The Union Church Ladies Aid expressed gratitude for the sympathy and kindness shown during my illness and bereavement. Mrs J H Foreman conveys sincere thanks.
Rivers hosts Rev. Gilbert H. Williams for open air and church services from Sunday June 21st, for prayerful guidance and Gospel proclamation. He will address daily life questions and spiritual growth with practical, sympathetic instruction.
A Taxis meeting on Wednesday adds W Stevenson to the group and adopts a rule to devote every second week to outdoor athletics during warm weather. The Taxis Ball team issued a challenge to the old timers for a Wednesday evening contest and a resolution to hold next week’s meeting at the river.
About fifty tents are in town due to housing shortage. A heated debate ran through Gazette columns on Town Council matters. Knox Church Brandon group of 31 gave a concert Thursday under Presbyterian Ladies Aid. J H Couch appointed Solicitor for the Town of Rivers.
