Oddfellows Social Draws Large Local Attendance

The Oddfellows held a semi official opening in their new hall on Thursday evening with nearly one hundred attendees. Games and a date contest entertained guests followed by whist and a ladies and gents booby prizes. A lunch by the Rebekahs and dancing ended a lively fraternal event with musical selections by Mrs Wareham and Constance Offen and recitations by Mrs N Tivy.

Rivers Council Minutes May 7 1924

The Rivers Town Council met on May 7 with Mayor Sinclair presiding. It approved Finance Committee reports and payments totaling $344.05 and $534.99, reappointed Mr Gabe as Weed Inspector, and ordered a public notice to warn against driving rigs on sidewalks and cycling there with potential prosecution.

Mothers Day Service at Union Church

Mothers Day observances at Union Church with crowded morning and evening services. Recitations by Stella Kryvenki and Carl Kitsch, a Mothers Choir anthem, and Principal Ferrier’s address highlighted the morning program. Grandmothers were presented with carnations by six white-clad girls. The evening featured more recitations, a trio, a solo, and a Mothers Choir chorus, with the church again at capacity.

Great Railway Exhibit at London's Empire Show

The Canadian Pacific Pavilion at the Great Empire Exhibition in Wembley features an ornate building with a 400-foot frieze of the CP route to Japan, moving models of ships and trains, illuminated vitascope scenes of Liverpool to Yokohama, and a 150-acre irrigation farm model. The interior includes exhibits of Banff Springs, Vancouver, Yokohama, and Japan scenes with nightly lighting and a cinema hall lecture program.
