Coronation bound Mounties ride to London horses loaded

Forty six Royal Canadian Mounted Police horses travel to London for the coronation parade and related events. Canadian Pacific rail and steamship services coordinate the unusual transport. Photos show loading at Ottawa into four palace horse cars and at Montreal harbor aboard the Beaverburn. Between deck space allows daily exercise for the animals.

Winnipeg kittens mingle as litter suffers pup pie loss

In Winnipeg a litter of six pups suffers with three dead while the mother cat proves too weak to nurse the remaining offspring. A second mother cat arrives with her own kittens, and the two litters mingle contentedly under care.
