Women Institute Concert Highlights Rivers Dramas and Plays

The Women’s Institute Concert drew a large crowd at the I.C.O F Hall with two short plays. The Clod, Rivers entry in the Drama Festival, showcased strong acting led by G. M. Henderson and Mrs. Setter. A later village dance and quilt prize followed before the Rivers School Trustees met to approve minutes, finances, and school supplies.

All yards must be cleared of garbage and refuse by Wednesday May 15. Outbuildings require repairs and sanitary pails provided. Water tight slop barrels with covers to be used for slops.

Experimental Farm Note on pasture crops mixtures

The Brandon Experimental Farm studies pasture crops to extend spring to fall grazing. A top blend is four parts brome to three parts alfalfa sown at 15 to 20 pounds per acre, yielding spring leafage half brome half alfalfa, and July August growth mainly alfalfa with fall brome returning. Crested wheatgrass is best sown alone, as it disappears when mixed.

Rivers Town Observes King George Jubilee With Parade

The town celebrated the Silver Jubilee of King George's accession with an open air meeting at the skating rink. A large parade led by Frank Paddock carried the Union Jack and Rivers School Band. Mayor Dunsmore presided as tributes to the monarch and Queen Mary were read, followed by Jubilee certificates and silk flags for attending children.

Mothers Day Service at United Church The

The Sunday School invites all friends to a Mothers Day service at 11 a.m. on Sunday with a theme Come, Let us go a mother ing. A Rivers Mothers Choir leads the singing. Daly 11 a.m., Pettapiece 3 p.m., Rivers 7:30 p.m. New hymn books The Hyponary will be used at the evening service.
