River Board of Trade Meets at Alexandra Hotel

Rivers Board of Trade held its monthly session at the Alexandra Hotel with a dinner and routine business chaired by President E E Grant. A committee was formed to coordinate with the Town Council on the Royal Visit in June as the Rivers Drama Club presented two one act plays at 1.00 F. Hall.

Rivers School Board Meeting March 15 Adopts Minutes Pays Accounts

Rivers School Trustees met on Wednesday March 15 at 8 00 pm in the school. Resolutions carried include appointing Beattie as Chairman in Bowman's absence and adopting the last meeting's minutes. Accounts totaling 193.70 were authorized for payment. Reports from the Principal and Attendance Officer for February were read and filed. Correspondence included Education Dept contracts, Manitoba Wage Tax Office notes on undercollections in 1937, Inspector A Moore on education costs, Great West Life and Mutual Life debentures maturing in 1939. Meeting adjourned.

Parliament hears call to end radio license fee

Paul Martin presented to the Commons radio broadcasting committee his plan to abolish the 250 license fee on receiving sets. He argued the fee harms the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and urged funding broadcasting from general taxation as a matter of national character.

Curling Club Ends Season With Prize Winners Listed

The Curling Club wrapped up its final bonspiel last week with prize results across divisions. Jas Frame led the Grand Challenge and Curling Club Event, Alf Wareham took second in both events, while Harry Evans and Dave Luchuck earned Citizens top spots. The Ladies Curling Club finals concluded Saturday with Mrs Hi Rea winning Grand Challenge and Second Event, Norma Grommett securing Consolation, and Mrs H Stewart top in Consolation.
