The final whist drive of the Rebekah series takes place tonight in Oddfellows Hall. Aggregates prizes for the season and usual prizes will be awarded, followed by dancing until 2 o clock. Admission is 40 cents, and 40 cents applies to dance only entrants.
The Rivers School Board held its regular monthly session with Dr. Lyon presiding. Inspector Mordleon reported satisfactory progress in the public school rooms after his visit. Principal W. G. Pearce suggested a Field Day at Rivers and the board asked Pearce to confirm an organization meeting there. The board also asked the secretary to consult Oak River Cardale and nearby rural schools about cooperation. The Van No. 5 load was deemed excessive and the Van Committee was instructed to investigate, with a possible special meeting if needed.
The United Church ends its March sermons with a Sunday Service on Easter afternoon. The event features a radio broadcast from Brandon with about 1000 in Brandon and many more across the province expected to join via Sunday School participation. The program includes local scholars and a 2:30 start time with tuning at 3:00.
The Scottish Board of Health reports a study across seven centres showing milk fed children gained 20 percent in height and weight and overall health improved during a second phase. The A Y P A held a well attended session in the Parish Hall on Wednesday. A debate followed on the resolution that women should receive the same wages as men for the same work. Judges included Mrs Norman Tivy Rev Nash and Melville Harvey. The affirmative won after strong arguments. Refreshments ended a pleasant evening.
On Saturday evening at Oddfellows Hall Wm Ivens M A will address the Seven Sisters Falls. Representing the Independent Labor Party he will discuss a live subject drawing a large turnout on the question that has been in the limelight. Admission is free and all are invited.
The Rivers bonspiel concluded last Wednesday with heavy ice that hindered play. Following earlier reports of three open events, the Consolation results finalize the tournament outcomes and name the winners.
