Daily Passion Week Devotions at St James Church

Anglican services announce daily 4 pm devotions March 22 to 27 at St James Church with Good Friday 7 30 p m service replacing the afternoon one. Sunday School at 200 and evening worship at 7 30 p m. Arcrum and Rivers also listed for Sunday services 300 and 7 30 p m.

The United Church schedules a Sunday service titled The Cross and Its Meaning for Us with Holy Communion observed. Rivers Bonspiel Creates Notable Ends and Local Decisions

Ten years ago in Rivers notable events included a bonspiel where Fred Oakley played Bert Taylor in a game with six blank ends. The School Board banned coal oil gasoline in school vans. Elizabeth McKellar died at 84. Pupils would be passed to farms by Principal recommendation. Private M J Orth thanked Rivers ladies from France. Methodist and Presbyterian churches voted for a monthly union service.

Purvis to address Home Improvement Plan on CBC hookup

Arthur B. Purvis chairman of the National Employment Commission will speak over CBC stations in a national hook-up on Thursday March 25 at 1015 EST 9 15 CST. He is expected to discuss the Home Improvement Plan and its aims.

The Canadian National Railways System reported week ending March 7 1937 gross revenues of 3 816 991 dollars, up from 3 304 020 dollars for the same period in 1936, an increase of 512 971 dollars.

Daly Rural Council Minutes Read and Approve Proceedings

The Daly Rural Council met with all members present presided by Reeve Seater. Correspondence included an Order in Council on Seed Grain and a general assessment revision. Bylaw 895 levies school and municipal rates. another bylaw silent on borrowing 10 000 dollars from the Canadian Bank of Commerce. Orchestral Concert Draws Large Crowd at Hall

A large audience attended W. Whyte’s Orchestral Concert at 1.0 O.F. Hall last Wednesday aimed at funding a trip to Brandon Musical Festival. J A McKenzie chaired and highlighted a charity goal. The program featured violin solos, vocal trios, a junior orchestra, string quartet, and a radio broadcast by Round Up Rangers, with a dance concluding the evening.

Rivers Board of Trade Holds Meeting and Banquet Plans

The Rivers Board of Trade met in the Council Chamber with President B E Grant presiding. Members were few due to absences, routine business was handled, a banquet report was accepted, and a date window between October 25 and November 15 for the next event was proposed to boost attendance from country towns. A Coronation observance plan was formed with H Wareham J A McKenzie and T W Offen to coordinate with Town Council.

Town Council Minutes Adopts Previous Meeting Minutes

Rivers town council met March 10 with Councillor Sinclair presiding in Mayor Dunsmore's absence. Resolutions passed include paying General Accounts $2080.62 and Electric Light $61000. The unemployed relief petition was referred to the Relief Committee for review before adjournment.
